郡守官名。始见于战国。初为武职，防守边郡，后渐演变为郡级行政机构最高长官，省称守。秩二千石。西汉因之，景帝二年（前155）更名太守。魏晋时也为郡太守代称。宋代以后郡改为府，知府亦习称郡守。
郡守
官名。秦始皇废除封建制，建立郡县制，郡设郡守、丞、尉各一人。郡守治民，郡丞辅佐。边远的郡丞为长史。设郡尉管郡内军务，职责是辅佐郡守并主军事。
