An initialism for "plain old telephone service" or "plain ordinary telephone service," referring to the standard type of telephone signal transmission that occurs over copper loops, as opposed to cellular or fiber optic signals. Despite major advancements in telecommunications technology, most of the country is still wired up with a POTS dating back to the late 19th century. Our plan is to bring high-speed broadband internet to every household in the country within the next 20 years, doing away with antiquated POTS for good.
