To convey a message of one's love and affection to someone. The phrase is used when the person being addressed will be seeing the intended recipient of the message before the speaker. I'm sorry I can't be there, but please give my love to Grandmom. Let's not forget to tell Aunt Martha to give our love to Uncle Henry when she drops by.
