To assemble, concoct, or create something from various other things, especially in a quick or impromptu manner. A noun or pronoun is used either between "make" and "up." I don't get paid until tomorrow, so I'll just have to make up something to eat from what's left in the cupboards. I can make some nametags up from the bits of paper I've got lying around.

to create something from something. I will make some stew up from the ingredients available in the fridge. I will make up a stew from the leftovers.
