词汇 nerdy
释义 (redirected from nerdy)

nerd

1. Someone considered uncool and eccentric, typically due to being passionate about interests that are not generally popular, and perhaps also to being somewhat socially inept. Used in a derogatory way. What a nerd! Probably has his room covered in that weeaboo anime stuff. I was considered a nerd in elementary school because I was in the band and actually cared about my grades. You're not one of those science nerds, are you?
2. Someone unabashedly passionate about a very specific interest or interests. Used as a term of endearment or pride. Aw, look at our little nerd over there, obsessing over her science fair project. The conference is a great place for robotics nerds like me.

nerd magnet

slang Someone who seems to attract the romantic attention of a socially awkward or inept person, especially one obsessed or preoccupied with some specific, typically niche subject. Ever since I joined the high school jazz band, I turned into this major nerd magnet—all the dorky girls in there keep flocking to me in between classes! I wouldn't sign up to learn Japanese unless you want to end up a total nerd magnet.

nerd mobile

Any particularly uninteresting car that favors functionality over any sense of style or panache. I realized I had gone completely into the dull parent in life when I went to look at a new car and thought the nerd mobiles looked like the most sensible choices.

nerd pack

1. Any group of people who are similar in their social awkwardness or ineptitude and obsession or preoccupation with something not generally popular with the majority of people. I had a lot of varied interests in high school. I played a few different sports, I smoked pot with some of the outsiders, and I hung out with a nerd pack who were really into video games.
2. A thin plastic sheath that fits into the breast pocket of one's shirt to hold pens and other small instruments and protect the pocket from stains or tears. I know I look pretty doofy with my nerd pack in my shirt, but I need so many different colored pens throughout the day that it really is an essential part of my work.

tech-nerd

Someone who is exceptionally skilled with, knowledgeable of, or enthusiastic about technology, especially to the detriment of other skills or interests. Hey, Jim—I know you're a bit of a tech-nerd. Would you mind having a look at my computer and see if you can find out what's wrong with it? Look, no one but tech-nerds and industry analysts are going to care about the tiny upgrades they're making in the next model of phone. It's certainly not worth shelling out nearly $1,000 for one.
