部分瑶族的古称。南朝至隋分布于长沙、武陵（今湖南常德）、巴陵（今岳阳）、零陵（今永州）、衡阳、澧阳（今湖南澧县南）、桂阳、熙平（今广东韶关）境内。一说是苗族的祖先；一说是苗、瑶共同祖先。
