释义	中夏①与指华夏族、汉族地区的“中国”同义。班固《东都赋》：“目中夏而布德，瞰四裔而抗稜。”②指黄河流域，与广义的“中原”同义。《后汉书·马融传》：“明德曜乎中夏，威灵畅乎四荒。”《晋书·王珣传》：“时（桓）温经略中夏，竟无宁岁。”③指中国中部地区。《南齐书·柳世隆传》史臣曰：“柳世隆势居中夏，年浅位轻，首抗全师。”按此指宋升明元年（477）荆州刺史沈攸之起兵反萧道成，攻郢州刺史柳世隆于夏口（郢州治。今湖北武汉市武昌）。时称荆州（今属湖北）为西夏，而称其东宋朝中部地区之郢州为中夏。
