In counting votes, plurality is commonly used with respect to a leading candidate and his nearest rival. If the leader obtains more than half of all the votes cast, he has a majority. Thus, suppose 1,000 votes are divided among A, B, and C. If A gets 550, B 300, and C 150, A has a plurality of 250 and a majority of 50.
