a vote of thanks
A formal speech used to express thanks and appreciation to someone or something else, encouraging those present to show their appreciation as well. I could tell Mike was expecting votes of thanks from everyone in the office when he retired, but we were all so sick of him by then that he just kind of shuffled out the door. We really ought to have someone deliver a vote of thanks at the end of the show to all the mentors who helped our kids on their projects.
