during the Vietnam war, a tactic of having a small armoured convoy drive at high speeds shooting at both sides of the road to thwart ambushes by the Viet Cong; in Iraq in 2003, used by soldiers of a death or glory incursion into Baghdad. Possibly originating in the Korean war, 1950–53, where it was used figuratively for a final bar crawl before leaving a posting US, 1983.
