1. To walk out of some place in order to enter some larger area or a different environment. After nearly three hours of discussions, we stepped out of the conference room into the sunshine for a short break. 2. To leave some particular situation or condition in order to begin or enter into something new or different. After 10 years with the company, Jackson decided to step out of the world of finance into a career as a freelance writer.
