better things to do
Things that are more important or enjoyable than what one is currently doing. This phrase is usually preceded by the verbs "got" or "have." Aunt Marie couldn't join us today because she's got better things to do, apparently. Oh, this is ridiculous. I have better things to do than stand in line for an hour!
(I've) (got) better things to do.
There are better ways to spend my time.; I cannot waste any more time on this matter. (Either I've got oil have.) Andy: Good-bye. I've got better things to do than stand around here listening to you brag. Henry: Well, good-bye and good riddance. Mary: How did things go at your meeting with the zoning board? Sally: I gave up. Can't fight city hall. Better things to do.
