a contemptible person. Probable origin in the phrase 'your arse', although some suggest Dutch raas (rage). The early, especially West Indian, sense was considered extremely offensive, however modern UK black usage is roughly equivalent to ARSE or ARSEHOLE. There is a, possibly disingenuous, belief amongst some Jamaicans that Raas was a king of Africa JAMAICA, 2000.
