释义
Idiom
blow-by-blow
a blow-by-blow description of an event gives every detail of how it happened.
She gave me a blow-by-blow account of her car crash.

blow-by-blow

Very thorough and detailed. I'm so jealous that you get to go to the gala! I'll want a blow-by-blow account when you get home tonight! Don't bore people with a blow-by-blow account that chronicles every minute of your trip—just give them the highlights.

blow by blow

Described in minute detail, as in Tell me about last night's party, blow by blow. This term originated in radio broadcasts during the 1930s, in which the sportscaster gave a detailed account of each punch struck in a boxing match. It soon was transferred to a detailed account of anything at all.

blow by blow

Described in minute detail. The term is American and comes from sportscasting, specifically the radio broadcaster’s description of a prizefight (“A left to the body, a right to the chin,” and so on). It dates from the first half of the twentieth century and soon was transferred to similarly explicit accounts of other events, private or public.
