institutional racism
Racism resulting from the inherent biases and prejudices of the policies and practices of social and political organizations, groups, or institutions. The term was coined by Black Power activists Charles V. Hamilton and Stokely Carmichael (later known as Kwame Ture) to distinguish it from individual racism, which is typically more overt. Institutional racism keeps the minorities of this city confined to dilapidated apartment buildings in slums. Racial profiling by the police is an act of institutional racism, and we won't stand for it!
