To examine or investigate (some place or area) in order to locate someone or something. A noun or pronoun can be used between "around" and "for" to specify the location. I looked around the entire building for the manager, but she was nowhere to be found. I kept looking around for somewhere to plug my laptop in, but there were no outlets anywhere in the classroom.

to seek someone or something out. Look around for Ted and tell him to come home. I looked around for the can opener, but it's not there.
